Las Vegas, NV, January 15, 1998 - In 1992, Westwood Studios' Dune II set the world on fire by introducing real-time to the strategy genre and a new way to control the battlefield. Today, Westwood proudly announces Dune 2000 TM, scheduled to be released this spring.

The reborn classic has all the features that made the original a huge hit, and now it's even better. Players will be able to battle in the world of Dune across the Internet and over local area networks. Dune 2000 will feature a Command & Conquer-style interface for quick and easy gameplay. New high-resolution graphics bring the world of Dune to life like never before.

Dune 2000 offers all the familiar units of the original: Deviators, Sonic Tanks, Ornithopters, Fremen Warriors, the Emperor's Elite Troops, the Sardaukar and many more. Sandworms roam the desert looking for troops to devour while players can fight against up to two other sides. Players can lead the noble Atreides, the sneaky Ordos or the evil Harkonnen.

"Dune II is still very popular with our fans," Sperry said. "We decided to update the classic and give Dune fans, for the first time ever, the experience of playing head-to-head. At the same time, we're giving players who are new to the game a chance to experience this fascinating world."

New video mission briefings, inspired by the sets and costumes of the movie, are used to make each battle more dramatic and create a rich game environment.

"Dune was an inspiration to me and the design team," Sperry said. "It's an exotic setting full of political intrigue and hidden danger. It's a fascinating world for a game, and with this new and improved Dune, it's once again a fun place to wage war."
